Dental Health & Hygiene
Our Hygienist fulfils a crucial role in our practice
Hygienists are experts in preventive dental care and will work with you to help prevent gum disease and tooth decay. An important part of this is professionally cleaning your teeth by removing plaque and tartar (this is known as a “scale and polish”). Once your teeth are cleaned you will be shown how to maintain things with your own home care. The advice you are given will be tailor-made for you and your mouth.
Having regular visits with the hygienist is the best way to maintain a healthy mouth
If the health of your gums is neglected it could lead eventually to tooth loss. At either your check up or at your hygienist appointments we will take measurements, which means we can assess whether your gum health has improved.
If you notice bleeding gums this is usually a sign of gum disease
Unfortunately there is no cure for gum disease, but it can be stopped from progressing and is usually controllable.
